Secondary Family NamesA number of the names listed on the family tree page are either spousal names with low occurrences or pre-cursor names. The Brengle name appears with more frequency and is attached to the Root family tree. The Brengles are an old established family in early Frederick. The Mantz name pre-dates the Brengle name within the Root family tree. Nicholas Brengle who was Daniel Root's (1803 - 1877) first father in law married Mary Mantz who was the daughter of Revolutionary War Major Peter Mantz who is also listed as a Sheriff of Frederick City. The Hauer name converges the Root line through marriage into the Mantz line. Catherine Hauer was the wife of Peter Mantz. She is also the sister of Barbara Fritchie of Civil War fame. The Fritchie name is distantly associated with the Levy family through the mother of William David Levy who was the much younger half sister of John Casper Fritchie. They shared the same mother who was William David's grandmother, but not the same father. John Casper Fritchie's father, Casper Fritchie was tried, convicted and executed as a traitor during the Revolutionary War The Getzendanner name is linked with the Houck name by the marriage of the earliest known Houck, Jacob to Ann Margaret Getzendanner. There is additional information on her and her siblings that is available owing to the predominance of the Getzendanner family in Frederick . The Tabler name is also a precursor to the Houck name , crossing the line through the previous generations of Geztendanners. The Kaufman name crossing into the Houck line in the late 1880's with the marriage of state sentator George L. Kaufman to Fanny M. Houck Humrichhouse, Crum, Boteler, Zeiler are all spouses of early Levy daughters. Francis Geisinger who also was a spouse of one of the original David Levy's has a larger listing owing to the information available on this particular family name. The name of Weiss comes into the Levy line with the first David Levy's wife. The Sturm/Storm name comes into the Levy family line through the marriage of David Levy, Jr. to Mary Ann Sturm. Sturm is another very old established Frederick name and efforts are being made to flesh out that portion of the family tree and should be completed soon. The Parrish and Shipley names converge the Buckingham line with Caroline Parrish who was the wife of Oliver P. Buckingham. The majority of the information gathered on the Parrish lines comes from Census records. There are other instances of the Shipley name converging with the Buckingham line. The assumption is that Shipley and Buckingham cousins or 2nd cousins intermarried. There is no information known on Moses's wife other than her birth name available at this time. Another name that crosses several times through the Buckingham family is Gardner in the early 1800's. It appears, although documentation has not yet been confirmed that Gardner brothers married Buckingham sisters. The brides in question are definately sisters, it is assumed that the grooms were brothers as this appears to be a pattern followed by early Buckinghams. The same holds true for the Gosnell name linked with the Buckinghams which predates the Gardner name in the Buckingham family line by a hundred years. Gosnells intermarried with their Buckingham cousins in the mid 1700's probably in order to hold or add to property in both Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties. The Goursch family name intersects with the Buckingham line about 1780 and sprinkled instances of this name cam be found throughout the Buckingham family tree. Hayden and Stehley appear in the Levy line, but in the West Virginia branch The Cromwell name comes in to the Root family both as Daniel Root's (1803-1877) mother who was married to the original Daniel Root, but through his sister's marriage into the Cromwell family as well via her second husband. There is no current evidence linking the two as being from the same family, however, it is probable that they are. Names with only one instance, generally just the wife's maiden name are Miller, Lynch, Kraclo and Wereley are all listed as they are direct ancestors on the paternal line. Margaret Miller and Jennie Lynch were the mothers of Leonard G. Levy, V and Gertrude C. Landon respectively, who married and are this author's paternal great-grandparents. The Kracl name is associated with the Zeisel family tree and the Werely name is associated with the Dix family tree The Diller name is associated with the Kreglo/Root family tree. The Kemp name appears in a variety of family trees dating back as far as the 1763 marriage between Adam Getzendanner and Elizabeth Kemp and as late in the family tree as the marriage of Mary Lousia Houck to DeWitt Kemp approximately 1912. It is currently not known if it is the same family group.
